Math We are working on our 2nd math unit which focuses on Geometry and Fractions. Students are learning about the attributes of shapes, parts of a whole, and how they are connected. Additionally, Math facts to 20, telling time to the hour/half hour, and counting coins continue to be part of our daily math practices.
ELA Students continue to work on strategies to build stamina when reading and writing. In Readers Workshop they are focused on understanding the whole story, and getting the gist of what the author is writing about. We have started our Narrative Writing Unit. Students are working to produce more detailed stories with multiple characters, dialogue, and some action.
Theme Study We have been learning about Fire Safety, Bus Safety, Healthy Choices, and the three types of communities you can live in. We also keep reviewing our 5 agreements that will serve as our classroom rules. We have agreed to:
1. Be respectful
2. Be Kind
3. Be helpful
4. Be ready to listen and learn
5. Have fun
We have begun working cursive handwriting and mastering writing our first and last name in cursive.
HOMEWORK: * Daily reading to/with your child with the general guideline being 10-20 minutes per night. * Unstructured, imaginative play allows the young child to naturally discover their strengths and abilities. * Homework= Lifework can be found in monthly newsletters. This section of the newsletter gives helpful tips on how everyday living, done intentionally, really does support a young child's education. * Fundations (spelling & phonics) will be assigned by Unit (approximately every 2 weeks). These should be reviewed daily. * Math games and student practice pages from Math Investigations units.
